About Me

Hi, I'm Sue Field, the cake maker and decorator for Finesse Cakes, which is based from my home in Hockley, Essex, England.

I first discovered cake decorating in 1999, when I designed and decorated my wedding cake. Since a young age I'd always loved expressing my creativity through model making and I wanted to bring something of this to my wedding. As our cake was being baked for us by my husband's grandfather, decorating it seemed the perfect opportunity for me. I'd had no previous experience in cake decorating, so I completed a couple of local cake decorating courses in flower making and piping work and well, since then I haven't looked back.

After having 2 lovely children, much of my early cake making was based around birthday cakes for them, whilst undertaking commissions for friends and family where time permitted. Once the kids were older, I decided to dedicate more time to my cakes. I launched Finesse Cakes in April 2009, after being award a 5 Star Food Hygiene Rating from Rochford District Council. In 2010 I was shortlisted for Celebration Cake Maker of The Year with the national Baking Industry Awards and I have since gone on to win Essex Wedding Awards - Wedding Cake Designer 2012 and Highly Commended Cake Maker - East of England 2017 in the Wedding Industry Awards. Many of my wedding cakes have featured in National Press and I was also featured recently in an Evening Echo. I am the recommended wedding cake supplier for a number of venues including The Lawn in Rochford (where I celebrated my wedding), Apton Hall, Rochford and The Rayleigh Club.

It is a real pleasure to make cakes for others and to have the opportunity to play my part in so many special celebrations.
