It's always a pleasure to visit Maidens Barn, one of my favourite venues in the heart of the Essex countryside and the morning of 29th June 2019 was no exception, as the sun was shining and the flowers were in full bloom around the beautifully kept courtyard.
Jess and Byron's wedding had a very rustic feel to it with table displays featuring delicate flowers and wood slice arrangements. Their cake followed a similar theme and it was a delight to create this stacked wood log effect cake. It was the first of this style I'd had the pleasure of creating and it was so much fun to see the bark come to life as I painted the colour onto the base icing colour. Each tier featured a special moment in Jess and Byron's journey, from their first meeting, their engagement and then their wedding day, all recorded as "bark engravings".
Each tier was a different flavour, with salted caramel, traditional sponge, red velvet and then a rich fruit with marzipan at the top. By all accounts all the flavours were a massive hit with their guests.
